Topic: Language teaching and learning materials

Order Description
This is not actually an assignment, but it is. This might be one of topics which I need to write for entering PhD degree next year. Apparently this was one of assignments for Master degree students at the University this year. Students at this course are mainly professional teachers or researchers. I presume that this topic might be one of the topics we have to write. I will be much easier if I see a written paper. However, it is difficult to find this kind of references. So, it will be a great help, if you show me a model on this topic. All applicants will be asked to write around 2500 words, and I also want to see the references. Of course this might not be the topic which PhD will demand for the test but I would like to make sure I pass with merit. One of the topics will be written as followed.
Write a 2500~3000 word essay following these guidelines.

The essay is a 2500~3000-word paper that provides a written account of and develops the above as follows: Either choose one text from an English language course book, Reading explore Unit 4 or Diving into Mystery. They are in a PDF file
1. Evaluate the book in terms of overall characteristics; Please predict what type of the textbook it is as they don’t indicate the whole text book

2. Choose one unit to evaluate in detail;
3. Choose two or three tasks from this unit to adapt so that they are more appropriate for students;
4. Provide a rationale for your adaptation, explaining in what ways your tasks
are more suitable than the original ones.

These are the points which you need to cover, building on and developing the topic:

Contextual detail is important, enough for the reader to understand who the students are etc. (this part is not in the ‘instructions’ above but is necessary).

1. Explain and discuss some principles of and approaches to evaluation (the theory).
2. Describe which evaluation method/checklist you are using (points 1 and 2 in the instructions. Note that you are evaluating the book overall AND one unit.) and provide a rationale for the evaluation type or criteria you select. The evaluation will need to be according to criteria that you develop from checklists (adapted, probably). The actual evaluation can be put in an appendix.

Describe your adapted tasks, with rationale that refers to principles of design (points 3 and 4 in the instructions). The rationale answers the basic question ‘Why are my tasks better than the ones I evaluated?’ You should include the redesigned tasks or lesson in the text where you describe them.
